LUCKNOW, India (AhlulBayt News Agency) - Senior Indian Shia cleric and Vice-president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Maulana Kalbe Sadiq was operated at Gurugram situated Medanta hospital late Tuesday evening after a malignant growth in his stomach was suspected at a Lucknow based private hospital.
By Tuesday night, the surgery was successfully conducted by a team of doctors under Dr Gourdas Choudhari and Sadiq was said to be recuperating at the medical facility. He is 78-years old.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited Maulana Kalbe Sadiq on Thursday. Maulana was admitted to the hospital for an infection in the intestine.
Sadiq, a senior Shia cleric, was air-lifted to Gurugram early Tuesday morning, after reports of suspected cancerous growth were received.
His health suddenly deteriorated on last Tuesday in Lucknow following which he was rushed to Medanta hospital Gurgaon through air ambulance.
"He had fallen ill in February, but recovered only to fall ill again. We immediately took him to the hospital where initial tests pointed out at an intestinal infection. He is diabetic and also has a heart condition, but those reports came fine. Later when his condition deteriorated, other tests were run. It was then decided to take him to Medanta," said his son, Kalbe Sibtain Noori.
It must be noted that he has undergone an operation and a part of his intestine has been sent for biopsy. The report will come within 10 to 12 days.
