Bahraini prisoner Hajer Mansoor Hassan faces more punitive measures

Her son-in-law, exiled Bahraini human rights defender Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei, made the revelations in a Twitter post on Saturday and called on prison authorities to “provide her with immediate access to medication.”

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Bahraini prisoner of conscience Hajer Mansoor Hassan is being denied painkillers for severe back pain at the women’s Isa Town Detention Center where she is serving a three-year prison sentence.

Her son-in-law, exiled Bahraini human rights defender Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei, made the revelations in a Twitter post on Saturday and called on prison authorities to “provide her with immediate access to medication.”

Hassan was convicted last year, along with two other relatives, of planting “fake bombs”.

Rights groups maintain that the verdicts are retaliation for Alwadaei’s outspoken criticism of Manama’s rights violations.

49-year-old Hajer observed her second hunger strike last month in protest over ill-treatment in detention.
