(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Manama’s security forces appeared to be tightening their ‘siege’ around the home of Bahrain’s religious authority Sheikh Isa Qassim on Thursday.
Images posted online showed barbed wire and more concrete barricades being set up around the residence in the kingdom’s northwestern village of Diraz, where the cleric has been living under house arrest for nearly a year.
Sheikh Qassim was arbitrarily stripped of his nationality in June 2016 and confined to Diraz for speaking out against Manama’s policies. Last May, security forces stored his home and killed five of his supporters in the process.
His health has been gradually deteriorating in recent years and according to Manama’s critics, the 80-year-old is being deprived of adequate medical care leading to numerous health complications.
