(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Bahrain’s Interior Minister Rashid bin Abdullah al-Khalifa threatened to ‘track down’ Bahraini activists who use social media to voice their opposition to the Manama regime.
Al-Khalifa explained that Manama was mulling new legislation designed to introduce “severe measures to deal with unprecedented chaos by disruptive social media accounts”.
“We are not far from tracking down those behind this, and taking legal action against them,” he said in a statement released on Sunday.
Manama has already jailed countless activists in its clampdown on online dissident.
One of the more high profile cases is that of human rights defender Nabeel Rajab, who was sentenced to five years in prison for tweets criticizing the Saudi-led war in Yemen and exposing the use of torture in Bahrain.
