(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Blind Bahraini detainee Jaafar Maatouk has been placed in solitary confinement after online activists launched a Twitter campaign demanding his immediate release.
The revelations were made by Maatouk’s family members, who repeatedly voiced their concern over his well-being.
The Twitter campaign was launched last week following allegations that Maatouk was being subjected to severe torture in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison.
The disabled 27-year-old is serving a life sentence over what activists describe as politically motivated charges. Detained in 2014, Maatouk has also been stripped of his Bahraini citizenship.
Prisoners at Jaw are routinely harassed by guards for speaking out against poor living conditions, observing Shiite religious occasions, and refusing to abide by abusive restrictions.
