(AhlulBayt News Agency) - A Bahraini minor was sentenced to six months in prison on Sunday for allegedly taking part in an ‘illegal gathering’ – a charge commonly used to jail anti-regime protesters.
The court ordered 14-year-old Qassim Ali Mahdi al-Shahabi to begin serving his sentence immediately.
Minors in Bahrain are routinely taken into custody without cause or an arrest warrant.
Countless rights groups, including Human Rights Watch (HRW), blasted Manama in the past for detaining children and subjecting them to “ill-treatment that may rise to the level of torture.”
