(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Bahrain’s Court of Cassation upheld yet another death sentence on Monday. The court ruled against the appeal filed by the defendant Hussein Marzouq, who was sentenced to death over his alleged role in a bombing that killed one person.
Marzouq maintains his innocence and accuses Manama’s security services of extracting his confession through the use of torture.
One of the co-defendants in the case Hassan Al-Hayeki died as a result of injuries he sustained while in the custody of Manama’s security apparatus.
Other sentences in the case included lengthy jail terms and citizenship revocations.
More than 20 Bahrainis are currently on death row. At the start of 2017, executions resumed in the kingdom for the first time in seven years when three torture victims were killed by firing squad.
