(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Manama’s security forces continued to enforce a ban on Shiite Friday prayers in Diraz’s Imam Al Sadiq Mosque this week. The ban was imposed in the summer of 2016.
Images posted online showed armored vehicles blocking-off access to the mosque, which used to host Bahrain’s largest Shiite congregation.
Concrete barricades and police checkpoints were also used to restrict people’s freedom of movement throughout Diraz. Only a small number of worshipers managed to gain access to the mosque to perform individual prayers.
The village is home to some 30,000 people, who have been subjected to an unprecedented lockdown by Manama’s security forces since the denaturalization of Bahrain’s highest religious authority Sheikh Isa Qassim in 2016.
