BFHR documents about 1,000 rights violations in Bahrain throughout January

The group recorded a total of 995 cases involving arbitrary arrests, unfair trials, violations against religious freedoms, enforced disappearances, and torture.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - A new report authored by the Bahrain Forum for Human Rights (BFHR) documented nearly 1,000 human rights violations across Bahrain throughout the month of January.

The group recorded a total of 995 cases involving arbitrary arrests, unfair trials, violations against religious freedoms, enforced disappearances, and torture.

According to the BFHR’s findings, 121 arbitrary arrests were carried out during illegal house raids by Manama’s security forces. Among those detained are six minors.

The rights group also documented 18 cases involving the use of torture and other forms of physical and physiological abuse. Out of those, at least eight are minors and four others women.

Meanwhile, a total of 17 Bahrainis were forcibly disappeared during the same time period.

The report also put the spotlight on Bahrain’s judiciary, which handed out 679 years of jail time to 77 defendants.

Elsewhere in the report, the BFHR tackles the ongoing ban on Shiite Friday prayers in Bahrain’s northwestern village of Diraz, which has been in place since the summer of 2016.
