Bahrainis prepare to mark 7-year anniversary of revolution

Demonstrators in Bahrain’s Al Daih and Sanabis also marched in preparation for the upcoming 7-year anniversary of the country’s popular uprising.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Protesters took to the streets in a number of Bahraini villages on Tuesday evening in show of solidarity with those who perished at the hands of the kingdom’s security forces during years of repression.

Demonstrators in Bahrain’s Al Daih and Sanabis also marched in preparation for the upcoming 7-year anniversary of the country’s popular uprising.

On February 14, 2011, thousands of Bahrainis rose up in a series of protests against the ruling Al Khalifa clan, demanding democratic reforms.

The Manama regime enlisted the help of neighboring Arab monarchies before violently breaking up the rallies. Over 100 people are thought to have been killed and thousands arrested in the ensuing crackdown.

Since then, the monarchy has only stepped up its campaign of repression – dissolving opposition groups and jailing politicians and activists while resorting to torture and executions as a form of punishment for dissent.
