(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The president described books and writers as the linking point of the past and future, and emphasised that the Islamic Revolution of Iran is the revolution of expression, adding: "Books have a fundamental role in the process of development, better generations and building the future".

The president described books and writers as the linking point of the past and future, and emphasised that the Islamic Revolution of Iran is the revolution of expression, adding: "Books have a fundamental role in the process of development, better generations and building the future".

Dr Hassan Rouhani attended the 35th Book of the Year Award and the 25th World Award for Book of the Year of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Wednesday, and stated that the Islamic Revolution became the basis of national dignity and identity, emphasising: "The arrival of Islam was a pivotal point for the civilisation of Iran and the Revolution and an important milestone in the history of Iran".

"This history of the Islamic Revolution is in fact a starting point for a new chapter between before and after the revolution and is a turning point in the history of Iran," added the President.

He also continued: "Before the revolution, the Iranian nation was experiencing an era of humiliation by the Arrogance and the dictators".

Stating that "there was a time in this country when entering the university and learning new sciences and art was considered irreligious", the President added: "Even some religious people had certain reasons to not consider the high school and university appropriate for their children".

He also said: "The Islamic Revolution connected various tastes and made them coherent" adding that now if there is disagreement, it must be removed.

Dr Rouhani also went on to say: "The revolution created a new atmosphere and the religious people entered the field of culture and art".

"In order to emphasise the role of the people, Imam Khomeini (RA) changed the slogan of the Islamic System to the Islamic Republic," said the President referring to the talks before the victory of the Revolution about the type of system to be established after the Shah's regime.

Emphasising that the writings of scholars and scientists caused a fundamental change in Iran and the Revolution, he said: "When attacking houses, the SAVAK used to first go straight for finding books".

God called his greatest miracle the book of Quran, said Rouhani adding: "Writing generates thought and connects yesterday and tomorrow in history".

"The greatness of mankind is manifested in its thinking and the power of expression," added the President, underscoring that "books are the full-length mirror of peoples throughout the history".

Dr Rouhani also went on to say: "Today, a great burden is on the shoulders of scholars and writers to express and explain essential issues and the realities to the society".

Stating that "knowing the time is a prerequisite to the effectiveness of thoughts in the society", he said: "The fact that some books, like the works of Hafez and Sa'adi and Molana, are lasting is due to high level of thinking, knowing the time and being society-driven".

"For a book to become popular, it must satisfy a part of the needs of the society," said the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He also went on to say: "The government, the Ministry of Islamic Culture and Guidance and the media should help authors and publishers to promote reading in the society".

Library is one of the most delightful places, he said, adding: "Reading must be promoted in classes".
