(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Bahrain’s highest religious authority Sheikh Isa Qassim was discharged from hospital over the weekend after undergoing surgery. He was returned to his home in Diraz where he remains under house arrest.
On Friday, he spent several hours under close observation in the intensive care unit following the operation.
This is the second time that the 80-year-old cleric has undergone surgery in just under two months. Last December he received desperately needed treatment for an abdominal hernia.
Sheikh Qassim was arbitrarily stripped of his nationality in June 2016 and confined to Bahrain’s northwestern village of Diraz. Security forces stormed his residence last May and placed him under house arrest. Throughout his ordeal, he has been deprived of adequate medical care leading to numerous health complications.
