(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Dozens of people have been arrested across Bahrain as militias backed by the kingdom’s security forces carried out raids at dawn on Tuesday.
The scope of the raids is reportedly unprecedented both in terms of the areas targeted and the number of arrests.
At least 18 names of those detained on Tuesday have been made public by activists on the ground, including that of Sayyed Adnan al-Sayed Hashim.
The Shiite cleric was arrested in the northwestern village of Diraz after ‘commandos’ stormed his home.
The extensive security operation also targeted other predominantly Shiite towns and villages including A’ali, Barbar, Maqabah, Samaheej, and Al Daih.
There is no word yet on the charges against those detained or why so many people were arrested in the first place.
Manama’s security forces have detained thousands in recent years, often without proper cause. Many of those arrested are routinely subjected to torture and other forms of ill treatment.
