(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Hujjat-ul-Islam Dr. Seyed Abolhassan Navab, Secretary of the Ahlulbayt World Assembly’s Supreme Council has issued a messageon of condolences on the occasion of the sad demise of prominent Shia personality in Australia, the late Dr. Ahmed Abdul Majid Hammoud.

The full text of the message is as follows:

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

“Surely we belong toAllah; and to Him we shall surely return.”

The death of distinguished scholar who rendered valuable services to the Muslim community of Australia, Dr. Ahmed Abdul Majid Hammoud, caused regret and sorrow in the hearts of those who love Islam and the Holy Quran.

This prominent thinker, from the beginning of his youth up to recent years, worked hard to strengthen the religious beliefs of the followers of Ahlulbayt (a.s.) in Australia, especially Lebanese communities, and played an effective role in safeguarding the religious identity of immigrants to the Pacific area through various activities such as the establishment of cultural institutes, managing Islamic associations, authoring books, writing articles, attending television programs and lecturing in various gatherings.

His numerous books in different subjects (e.g. the lifestyle of the Holy Prophet of Islam (s.a.), the teachings of holy Imams, the revolution of Imam Hussein (a.s.), Islamic laws, women’s rights in Islam, etc.) in English and Arabic languages are sources of perpetual blessings for him, which will illuminate the path for truth-seeking people.

He was among the lovers of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, and hastened to come to Iran in the very early days after the victory of the revolution to visit the late Imam Khomeini and assure him of the full support of himself and all Muslims in Australia for the Iranian people’s revolution.

After Imam Khomeini’s death, too, Dr. Hammoud was amongst the great personalities of Shiite world who appealed to Ayatollah Khamenei – at the first year of his leadership – to found the Ahlulbayt World Assembly for intellectual and cultural promotion of Shiites worldwide.

After the establishment of the Ahlulbayt World Assembly, the late Dr. Hammoud was always a member of its General Assembly, and actively participated in all meetings, committees, and activities of this international organization.

Another significant point in the life of Dr. Hammoud was his tendency towards making a proximity between Shiites and Sunnites to the extent that he was appointed as the Secretary-General and spokesman of the Community of Sunnite brothers in Australia.

In my trip to Australia two years ago I witnessed closely his sincere efforts to create a peaceful atmosphere among the followers of different religions and denominations. There I delivered a speech for the audience who were prominent figures of different religions, including Dr. Hammoud, and I pointed out what Almighty God expects from the monotheists all over the world:
“Say, ‘O People of the Book! Come to a common word between us and you: that we will worship no one but Allah; and that we will not ascribe any partner to Him: and that some of us will not take some others as lords besides Allah.”

I extend my condolences on this sad occasion to Imam of our Time, may Allah hasten his reappearance, and to all esteemed members of the Ahlulbayt World Assembly as well as Muslim communities in Australia and his family members, pupils, and friends.

I beseech Almighty Allah to grace his soul with His infinite mercy and blessings, and to bestow patience and abundant rewards upon his family members.

“And whoever obeys Allah and the Apostle—they are with those whom Allah has blessed, including the prophets and the truthful, the martyrs and the righteous, and excellent companions are they!”
