(AhlulBayt News Agency) - A translation of the Holy Quran in French by an Iranian scholar has been received well in Senegal.
Seyed Hassan Esmati, Iran’s Cultural Attaché in Senegal told IQNA that the rendering by Abolqassem Fakhri has been distributed in the West African country and received very well.
He described the translation as a great Quranic achievement, adding that its distribution has been among the Iranian Cultural Center’s main activities in terms of Quranic diplomacy.
It took Abolqassem Fakhri more than 20 years to complete the translation of the Quran in French.
Senegal is a country in West Africa bordered by Mauritania in the north, Mali to the east, Guinea to the southeast, and Guinea-Bissau to the southwest.
It is a multilingual country with at least 36 languages, Wolof being the most widely spoken language.
French, which was inherited from the colonial era, is the official language of Senegal.
Islam is the predominant religion in the country where 92 percent of its population is estimated to be Muslim.
