Jailed Bahraini activist denied contact with family for over a week

It is not clear why the authorities at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison, where Al-Makhdour is incarcerated, are prohibiting him from communicating with the outside world.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The prominent Bahraini opposition activist Sheikh Abdulhadi Al-Makhdour, who was jailed in March 2011, has not had any contact with his family since December 27.

It is not clear why the authorities at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison, where Al-Makhdour is incarcerated, are prohibiting him from communicating with the outside world.

Sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of “plotting to overthrow the government”, Al-Makhdour is one of the Bahrain Thirteen – a group of opposition leaders, rights activists, bloggers and Shiite clerics arrested for their role in the 2011 uprising.

Since February 2014, the 13 have been isolated from the remainder of the prison population. As of last year, the political detainees have been subjected to other restrictions, including a ban on television and newspapers.
