Over 80,000 Indonesians rally to protest Trump’s Al-Quds decision

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Indonesian people held mass rally on Sunday in the country's capital city Jakarta to protest US president's provocative decision to recognize al-Quds as Israeli regime's capital.

Over 80,000 people, estimated by police, marched from the main mosque in Jakarta to Monas square in the city, while chanting pro-Palestinian and anti-US, Israeli slogans, Reuters reported. Flags of the US and Israeli regime were also burned.

“We urge all countries to reject the unilateral and illegal decision of President Donald Trump to make Jerusalem Israel’s capital,” Anwar Abbas, the secretary general of the Indonesian Ulema Council, told the crowd.

“We call on all Indonesian people to boycott US and Israel products in this country” if Trump does not revoked his action, Abbas said, reading from a petition due to be handed to the US ambassador in Indonesia.

Many of the protesters were clad in white and waved Palestinian flags and held up placards, some reading: “Peace, love and free Palestine”.

The dramatic shift in Washington’s al-Quds policy triggered massive protests in the occupied Palestinian territories, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Morocco and other Muslim countries.

The Israeli regime lays claim to the entire city as its “capital,” while Palestinians maintain that the flashpoint city is the undisputed capital of a future independent Palestinian state.
