Senior Cleric Calls for Unity, Cultural Work to Counter Takfiri Ideology after ISIS Collapse
Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, an advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in Muslim world affairs, said the collapse of ISIS’s self-proclaimed caliphate in Iraq and Syria was good news for Muslims countries.
“Fortunately, with the solidarity and unison among Muslims in Iraq and Syria and their support for the countries’ armies and governments, the inauspicious plot hatched against the region’s Muslims by the Zionist-Wahhabi front backed by the US was foiled.”
However, he said, since ISIS and other terrorist groups have roots in a deviated ideology, they will not be totally defeated through military means alone.
He underlined that the Islamic Ummah (community) should now work to eradicate the terrorists’ ideology through cultural world.
There should be efforts by institutions working to promote Islamic proximity to raise awareness among Muslims, Ayatollah Taskhiri said.
He further said that some see their interests in fomenting discord among Muslims and waging wars in the region but “we should not let them succeed on this path.”
The cleric went on to reiterate the need for unity among Muslims based on the teachings of the Holy Quran.
He talked on the sidelines of the 31st International Islamic Unity Conference, held in Tehran earlier this week.
Titled “The Unity and Requirements of the Modern Islamic Civilization”, the conference discussed ways to promote unity and solidarity in the Islamic world.
