The decision to push the trial forward comes despite objections voiced by his defense team.
Rajab, who is already serving a 2-year prison term, faces an additional 15-year sentence for daring to Tweet about the Saudi-led bombardment of Yemen and the use of torture in Bahrain.
During the last court hearing on November 19, the judge in the case adjourned the trial until New Year’s Day to hear further ‘expert’ testimony on Rajab’s Twitter account.
The court’s official explanation for rescheduling the trial was that the witness’ travel plans clashed with the original date of the hearing.
