Manila mosque hosts celebration marking Prophet’s (saww) birthday

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - A ceremony was held in Manila, the Philippines, earlier this week to celebrate the birthday anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Islamic Unity Week.

The Iranian Cultural Center in the Southeast Asian country organized the event in cooperation with the Manila branch of Al-Mustafa International University.

The Dar-ul-Quran center of the Blue Mosque, located in the Maharlika neighborhood of Manila, hosted the ceremony.

Addressing the event, Salsa Saluna, a representative of the Central Philippines Muslims Affairs Commission, congratulated all Muslims on the auspicious occasion.

Also speaking was Mohammad Jafari Malek, Iran’s Cultural attaché in the Philippines, who extended congratulations to the participants and followers of Islam all over the world on the birthday anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

He referred to the establishment of the Islamic Unity Week and elaborated on the importance of Muslim unity in Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Seerah.

Jafari Malek further emphasized that the Muslim world more than ever needs unity and solidarity.

Another such celebration is slated to be held at the center on Wednesday.

The 17th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal in the lunar Hijri calendar, which falls on December 6 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
