Bahrainis take to streets in solidarity with Sheikh Isa Qassim

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Anti-regime protesters were met with a heavy-handed response from Bahrain’s security forces as hundreds took to the streets under the banner of ‘the rage of the revolution.’

The latest in series of demonstrations come amid mounting anger over Manama’s treatment of Bahrain’s highest religious authority, Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, who remains under house arrest despite his worsening health.

The 80-year old was diagnosed with a hernia last week and the authorities are yet to allow him to receive proper medical treatment.

His supporters flooded the kingdom’s streets on Friday night demanding Manama lift the house arrest.

Protests were reported in a number of towns and villages including Sanabis, Ma’ameer, Abu Sabi as well as the outskirts of the capital.

Many held up Ayatollah Sheikh Qassim’s posters as they braved the clouds of teargas and flash grenades.

Some of the worst unrest took place in Diraz where police attacked protesters near Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim’s residence. A number of arrests were also reported.
