He was speaking during the ‘World Conference on Lovers of Ahl al-Bayt and the Takfiri Issue’, which was hosted by Tehran.
Literally translated, the phrase Ahl al-Bayt means “People of the House” and refers to the family of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.
The two-day event was organized in the hope of addressing key issues plaguing the Islamic world including sectarianism, oppression and armed conflict.
For his part, Sheikh Al-Daihi pointed to the widespread discrimination and unrelenting sectarian persecution against Bahrain’s Shiite majority.
He also accused the country’s security services of institutionalizing the “Takfiri approach.”
“The military and security doctrine of the security services in Bahrain, including the army, was built on the Takfiri approach,” Al-Daihi said.
The cleric explained that attempts to create sectarian sedition in the country and dismantle Bahrain’s Islamic unity were foiled by the kingdoms highest religious authority Ayatollah Isa Qassim.
In late May, Manama’s security forces placed Ayatollah Qassim under house arrest following a deadly raid on Bahrain’s northwestern village of Diraz.
