Images of ransacked homes and the names of those detained began circulating online after security services swept through a number of villages.
The operation, which targeted Sitra, Mahaza, Damistan, and Buri, reportedly dragged on throughout Monday night and into the early hours of Tuesday.
Among those detained was Haji Majeed Abdulla Hasan – one of Bahrain’s most well-known anti-regime protester.
Honored with the nickname Haji Somoud, which loosely translated means to resist, the 67-year-old has been targeted by Manama’s security agencies on numerous occasions.
He was detained four times since 2011, most recently in the summer of last year for taking part in a peaceful sit-in outside the home of the country’s highest religious authority, Sheikh Isa Qassim.
The reasons for his arrest this time around are still unknown.
