Imam Khamenei, in a message on Monday, expressed condolences to the Iranian people and families of the victims of the strong 7.3-magnitude earthquake in western Iran which killed at least 207.
The message is as follows:
In the name of God, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I sadly received news about an earthquake in the western part of the country, which resulted in the death and injury of a number of dear fellow countrymen and caused a lot of damage. It is the duty of the authorities to help the injured, especially survivors who are still trapped in collapsed buildings, during these very first hours, with due diligence and hard work, and to prevent the increase in casualties by quickly using all available facilities.
IRGC, the Army, and Basij, must organize themselves and quickly act by helping to transfer the injured and remove the rubble; all public organisations, military and nonmilitary, use all their capabilities to help the survivors.
From the depths of my heart, I express my sorrow and sympathy to the Iranian people, particularly, the dear people of Kermanshah Province and especially families who lost their beloved ones in this heartrending disaster. I supplicate to God so this grief and affliction be a cause for attracting God’s blessing and favor; I pray that He helps our dear people to be patient and increases their endurance.
