Al-Khamees said on Friday that she appealed to the authorities in Manama on multiple occasions to lift the travel ban against her, which has been in place since August 20.
Last month, she was turned away at Bahrain’s International Airport after being informed that she is banned from leaving the country. The authorities failed to elaborate on the reasons for the restrictions.
In recent years, Manama has barred a number of rights campaigners from traveling to Karbala for Arba’een, including Fatima al-Halwachi.
Al-Halwachi, who serves as the Deputy Chairman of the European-Bahraini Organization for Human Rights (EBOHR), tweeted that she was kept away from Arba’een last year.
“This year I am also on travel ban! Stripped of the right to freedom of movement,” she wrote on her Twitter page.
In September, Bahraini activists were banned from traveling as the UN Human Rights Council convened for its 36th session in Geneva.
