The reasons for Wednesday’s raid remain unknown.
The move is all the more surprising given that the Islamic Awareness Society – Bahrain’s largest Shiite religious and cultural grouping – was dissolved last year by order of the kingdom’s ministry of justice.
Back then, members of the interior ministry and riot police also stormed the organization’s headquarters.
The group was accused of illegal fundraising and money laundering – charges that it vehemently denies.
