15 Countries attending Arbaeen exhibition in Iraq

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The fifth edition of the Husseini (AS) Movement Exhibition is underway on the road between the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq.

The exhibition has been organized by Ibda Art Center under the title of "Ibda Ala Tarq al-Hussein (AS)” (an innovation on the path of Imam Hussein (AS)).

Sarmad Naeemi, director of the center, said the aim of the expo is clarifying the movement of Imam Hussein (AS) through the medium of art.

He said artworks in such fields as calligraphy, sculpture, photography, graphic design and painting have been put on display at the exhibition.

He added that the works are by artists from countries like Iraq, Algeria, Lebanon, Pakistan, Britain, Russia, Kuwait, Bahrain, India and Saudi Arabia.

The road between Najaf and Karbala has been the scene of one of the greatest religious rituals in the world.

During the days leading to Arbaeen, millions of pilgrims from Iraq and other countries go from Najaf to Karbala on foot.

Arbaeen falls on Thursday, November 9, this year.

It comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites. Many of them also visit Imam Ali’s (AS) holy shrine in Najaf.

In the past few years, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world took part in the mourning ceremonies in the Iraqi holy cities marking Arbaeen.
