Pres. Rouhani: Our nation, armed forces' dignity an Islamic Revolution goal

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - President Rouhani congratulated the historic day of November 4 and Imam Khomeini's (RA) exile, and said: "Part of the speech of Imam Khomeini (RA) on October 26, 1964 was aimed at defending the dignity and independence of the army".

Dr Hassan Rouhani met with senior commanders of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday and said: "From Imam Khomeini's point of view, one of the most important manifestations of the independence of the country is military independence. In this regard, the Constitution also includes preservation of the political system, independence of the country and territorial integrity as the main missions of the army".

Pointing out that "the army has been very successful after the Islamic Revolution in both Islamic and popularity dimensions," the head of the Supreme National Security Council continued: "The armed forces must be non-partisan, and today the greatest capital of the army is public trust and independence from political stances".

Dr Rouhani also referred to the sacrifices and devotions of the commanders and personnel of the Air Force, the Ground Force, The Navy, as well as the Aviation and defence forces in the Sacred Defence era, which stepped in for the first time to break the siege of Abadan and said that these contributions would not be forgotten.

"The Army has been proud during the Revolution, the Sacred Defence, and so far and it was, and is, always trusted by Imam Khomeini (RA), the Supreme Leader and Nation," he emphasised, adding that the operational strength of the armed forces depends on the agility of the structure, internal discipline, and modernity of the equipment".

Dr Rouhani said: "The government and people trust the Army as a faithful and dedicated part of the armed forces, and the government will continue to support the armed forces".

The head of the Supreme National Security Council, also referred to the responsibilities of the armed forces stated in the constitution and added: "The armed forces should be with the government during peace times and in any field deemed necessary by the government, and help advance the Administrative Branch's programs in running the country".
