Abdulwahab Hussain is serving a life sentence for his role in Bahrain’s 2011 popular uprising.
Championing the call for democratic reforms in Bahrain, Hussain took part in a number of uprisings dating back to the 1990’s and also co-founded the Al Wafa’ Islamic Movement.
His last arrest came on March 17, 2011 when Manama’s security apparatus scooped-up dozens of political and human rights activists.
Hussain was tortured by Manama’s National Security Agency (NSA) before being sentenced to life imprisonment by a special military court. And although the case has since been referred to the civilian Court of Cessation, attempts to overturn the verdict have failed.
