Egyptian Quran calligrapher passes away at 98

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Mahmoud Ibrahim Salama, a renowned Egyptian Quran calligrapher, died earlier this week at the age of 98.

Salama, known as the Sheikh of world calligraphers, created many works of art.

They included four copies of the Quran in Naskh script and two in Thuluth measuring 35 by 50 centimeters and 70 by 100 centimeters.

He was the only Egyptian calligrapher who calligraphed the Quran in Thuluth.

Egypt's Minister of Culture Helmi Al-Namnam in a message expressed condolences over the death of the prominent figure.
