Ashura our greatest university, education school: Pres. Rouhani

President Rouhani attended a ceremony marking the beginning of new academic year held on Saturday at University of Tehran, saying: "Politeness ad morality, favouring peace and attempting to reform are important parts of Imam Hussein's (PBUH) glorious uprising".

"The beginning of Mehr month and the beginning of the academic year is very important because the source of all capabilities of the country is science," continued the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

This year's Mehr month is accompanied by spiritual motivations coming from the culture of Ashura, said Rouhani adding: "Imam Hussein (PBUH) attempted and negotiated for months, but ultimately, he left Mecca to preserve the dignity of the Kaaba. Ashura is our greatest university and education school".

"Monopoly is dangerous in science, economy and management; we must encourage everyone to criticise and participate freely," added Rouhani saying that the university and the seminary must always be on the way to independence, progress and merit, ruling out tyranny, colonialism and monopoly.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also went on to say: "The university is responsible for educating leaders of the society".

There is no stop to science said Dr Rouhani adding: "Our professors' texts and teaching methods must be up-to-date".

He continued: "We must not reward a faction and punish another after the elections and people's turnout".

Referring to the figures about unemployment, he said: "Unemployment dropped one year compared to last year; the path is correct and more speed is needed".

"Students and academics should lead in understanding and analysing the political issues of society," continued Rouhani.

"We must not let some to undermine the worthy work of the nation and disappoint people," he added, saying that it seems that some are happy with the country's problems.

Our political power proved that we are strong not only in war but also in peace, continued the President.

The global unanimity against Iran has been broken and this cannot be reversed, he said, adding: "At the United Nations General Assembly this year, only the President of the United States and the head of a regime spoke against the Iranian nation".

"The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was our moral victory and proved to the world that we are truthful and our enemies are liars," the President continued.

He also went on to say: "Closure of the false PMD case and the abolition of Security Council resolutions are the legal victories of the Iranian nation and are irreversible".

Economic successes, including doubled sale of oil and condensates and foreign investment cannot be reversed, he said, adding: "We proved the absolute right to our nuclear activities in Vienna and New York".

Stating that if the United States violates the JCPOA, the world will not condemn Iran, but America, he said: "If a party stands up to its commitments and pledges, it is not to its detriment; but rather the party who breaks the contract will be discredited".

He also said: "The choice of people is the one that the Supreme Leader said: We want to have vast interaction with the world".

Environmental, social and economic problems require a university solution, added Rouhani, saying: "The administration should help the university, but the university must also consider the problems as problems in the country".

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also went on to say: "The basis for the advancement of science and university is competition".
