The vice president of the Bahrain Teachers’ Association (BTA) and the head of the Bahrain Human Rights Observatory (BHRO), Jalila al-Salman, was quick to speak out.
“Under what international legal umbrella, are children arrested in Bahrain,” Salman tweeted on Wednesday.
Minors in Bahrain are routinely taken into custody without cause or an arrest warrant. Countless rights groups, including Human Rights Watch (HRW), blasted Manama in the past for “routinely” detaining children and subjecting them to “ill-treatment that may rise to the level of torture.”
