Rabbi Marc Schneier, who was already hosted by the king on multiple occasions, will lead members of his Hampton Synagogue on their trip to the Gulf kingdom in early 2018.
Although much of the talk surrounding the planned visit centers on the supposed ‘promotion of religious tolerance’, Schneier told the The Jerusalem Post that he and Al Khalifa “agreed that Bahrain and Israel share a common threat – Iran.”
Manama has often attempted to justify its crackdown on regime critics with unfounded allegations of Iranian meddling.
Bahrain’s religious and opposition groups have strongly rejected any rapprochement with the Israelis, which they say comes at the expense of Palestinian aspirations for independence.
