The protesters, men and women, carrying placards with different inscriptions began the protest peacefully at Yobe Line terminus through Tsofuwar Kwata, to General Abubakar Waziri Way and Mohammed Idrissa way before it terminated at Kwanan Gadara behind Central Market Potiskum town.
The placards were inscripted 'Release El-Zakzaki, today is 644days of illegal detention, 'Free El-Zakzaki', 'Nigerian Government obey Court Order '.
One member, Mohammad Sani, said their leader has been in detention illegally for 644 days.
"We came out in protest for the illegal detention of our leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, today is his 644 days of illegal detention. What we are calling for is justice," he said.
The leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky was taken into custody in December 2015.
Since his arrest, he filed a case against the security agencies. In December 2016 however, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the Security outfit to release the leader of the group within 45 days.
In his judgment, Justice Gabriel Kolawole ordered the Federal Government to provide an accommodation for El-Zakzaky, his wife and family members within Kaduna State or any part of the northern region.
Despite the order, he is yet to be released, with many of his followers protesting against the continued detention.
