Families of Bahrain’s prisoners start hunger strike

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The families of hunger sticking prisoners in Bahrain announced that they were starting their own hunger strike in solidarity with their loved ones.

According to social media activists, the families are demanding an end to the systematic use of torture against Bahrain’s prisoners of conscience.

More than 1,000 political prisoners declared an open-ended hunger strike last weekend in protest over their living conditions and the ill-treatment that they are subjected to.

On Thursday, the families of the detainees called on the prison authorities to allow inmates access to medical care, grant them the freedom to worship, and remove restrictions on family visits.

They also expressed concern over the health of the hunger stickers, who are reportedly subjected to beatings and denied access to drinking water.
