Bahraini activist's trial postponed, next hearing scheduled for September 27

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Nabeel Rajab’s trial has been postponed and the next hearing has been scheduled for September 27.

The prominent Bahraini human rights activist faces an additional 15-year prison sentence over charges related to tweets criticizing the bombardment of Yemen and Manama’s use of torture.

The trial has already been postponed more than a dozen times amid allegations that the prosecution is intentionally undermining Rajab’s right to a fair trial after failing to corroborate the charges.

The activist, who turned 53 this month, was jailed last summer. In May he was sentenced to two years in prison for speaking to the media in 2015 and 2016.

International rights groups and the UN have called on Manama to free Rajab.
