410,000 more pilgrims attended Hajj this year

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The number of pilgrims attending this year’s Hajj is nearly 410,000 more than that of those taking part in the rituals last year.

Saudi Arabia’s Passports Department Chief General Sulaiman bin Abdul Aziz al-Yahya made the announcement at a press conference on Monday, adding that over 1.73 million pilgrims from other countries have arrived in Saudi Arabia for Hajj.

He noted that most of the foreign pilgrims, over 1,631,000 have arrived via air while the rest have traveled to the country bay land and sea.

Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca that every able-bodied and financially able Muslim is obliged to undertake at least once during their lifetime.

Following Saudi Arabia, Indonesia has the highest number of pilgrims in the 2017 Hajj.

There are 221,000 Indonesians in Mecca to perform the rituals.

Other countries with the highest number of pilgrims are Pakistan (179,210), India (170,000), Bangladesh (128,000), and Nigeria (95,000).
