The three Bahraini human rights defenders were all arbitrarily detained several months ago before being accused of terrorism-related offenses.
Calling for their immediate and unconditional release, the Observatory stated that the continued detention of the three was aimed at silencing their human rights activities.
The Observatory also demanded that Manama allow the jailed activists “unhindered access to their family, lawyers as well as proper medical treatment in adequate medical facilities, and guarantee their right to due process and a fair trial.”
Al-Saegh recently started a second hunger strike in as many months in protest over the ill-treatment that she is being subjected to. The prominent human rights defender, who alleges that she was tortured, was hospitalized on multiple occasions since her arrest in July.
Meanwhile, Al-Shakhoori and Al-Qatari were both held incommunicado by Manama’s security services before ending up in Bahrain’s Dry Dock Detention Center.
Al-Qatari later revealed that he was subjected to electrical shocks on his genitals and forced to confess to terror offenses while in the custody of the kingdom’s National Security Agency (NSA).
