While over 600 cases were lodged to the royal military police, over 90 percent have been dismissed. The remaining 10 percent, however, proved to be more significant to be easily ignored.
According to BBC report, an Afghan civilian claimed that his house was rushed in a midnight attack. The attack is supposed to have been made by SAS troops who have also executed the members of the family after the rush.
The only member of the family who remained alive says that he was kept blindfolded and tied up in a room of the house. The man remained anonymous to assure his security.
Early morning, they came and opened my eyes and said to me that I should not go out until they left the area. When the helicopters left the area we came out of the room. As soon as I came out of the room I saw that they had shot my father, two brothers and cousin.
The case is being investigated in a review of behavior of British military personnel in Afghanistan from 2005 to 2013 by the military police. There are, nevertheless, obstacles on the way of the investigations mostly blocking the smooth process of it.
As Chris Green, a former military intelligence operator, confirms, the information needed to promote the investigations are not provided for the military police. Mr. Green, who himself served in Afghanistan, adds, “British forces, and the troops that I worked with, worked under very, very strict rules of engagement and it seemed to me that special forces did not have to apply the same rules in quite the same way.”
A number of politicians, like the Labor Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, have criticized blocking the investigations believing that and independent inquiry into the allegations must be made to prove the administration’s “reputation for decency and bravery.”
