Senior seminary scholars, clerics, religious and political figures and grand sources of emulation, as well as people from all walks of life attended the ceremony, held in the city’s Azam Mosque.
It began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by prominent Qari Hossein Yazdanpanah.

He also highlighted Ayatollah Borujerdi’s mastery over Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and religious sciences.
Grand Ayatollah Borujerdi (1875 –1961) was an Iranian Shia source of emulation and the leading Marja in Iran from 1947 to his death in 1961.
Ayatollah Borujerdi made extensive efforts to enhance Muslim unity and established cordial relations with Sheikh Mahmud Shaltut, the grand Sheikh of al-Azhar Mosque in Egypt.
Together, the two scholars established the "House for Bringing Muslim Sects Nearer” in Cairo. Sheikh Shaltut issued a famous fatwa accepting the Shia faith as one of the recognized sects of Islam.
