Born in Foman, northern Iran in 1916, Ayatollah Bahjat was among the most revered Iranian clerics whose religious decrees were followed by many Shia Muslims.
He was a top Shia cleric well-known for his piety and the strict observance of the principles of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).
He passed away at the age of 94 in Qom in May 2009.
