Nigerian Shiite again, free Sheikh Zakzaky protesters march in Abuja

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) have again protested the continued detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.

The protesters moved from the Berger junction to Jabi area of Abuja on Thursday as they called on the Federal Government to respect of the country's constitution.

Sheikh Abdulhamid Bello in a message said the continued detention of Zakzaky and his wife is "making an open invitation to anarchy."

He added: "As if to add salt to injury, the Federal Government is fully aware that our leader has lost an eye during the Zaria massacre perpetrated by its army and the other eye in serious need of medical attention, but it has decided to deny him his freedom to tend to his health needs."

Justice Gabriel Kolawole had on December 2, 2016 ordered the release of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where they are being held since December 2015 following the confrontation of the sect members and the military which led to the death of scores of people.
