Modern Linguistics can be utilized as a systematic tool for achieving Qur’anic Knowledge: Shia scholar

The second conference of “Qur’an and Epistemology”was held in a cooperation between Research Institute for Islamic Culture and Thought and AllamehTabatabai University.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The second conference of “Qur’an and Epistemology”was held in a cooperation between Research Institute for Islamic Culture and Thought and Allameh Tabatabai University with the presence of Ayatollah Ali Akbar Rashad, Ayatollah Mahmoud Mohammadi Araghi and Dr. Hossein Salimi, head of Allameh Tabatabai University, Dr. Abdullah Nasri, and Dr. Alireza Ghaeminia.

At the conference, after the message of Ayatollah Javadi Amoli and the speech of Ayatollah Ali Akbar Rashad and Dr. Hossein Salimi,Dr. Mohammad Bagher Borghei Modarres gave his lecture about “Stylistics and Narratology of the Holy Qur’an”.

“Modern Linguistics can be utilized as a systematic tool for achieving the Qur’anic Knowledge” Dr. Borghei said.

This university lecturer and Linguistics researcher remarked: “In addition to epistemiological features of the holy Qur’an, this heavenly book enjoys unique Stylistic features that represent its literary values and distinguish it from other books.”

“Linguistics can be so helpful in this regard. New aspects of the literary miracle of the Qur’an can be achieved through the stylistic and narratological studies” he added.

Dr. Borghei Modarres continued with expressing some of the unique characteristics of the style of the Qur’an and explained about various aspects of the literary miracle of the Qur’an.

In this conference, from among different subject areas of stylistics, Dr. Seyyed Mohammad Bagher Borghei Modarres mentioned “Word Order”, “Information Structure”, “Grammatical Shift”, and “Word Selection” and gave some examples of these features in the holy Quran.

Then various subjects of Narrative Studies, including “Narrative Voice”, “Narrative Time”, “Narrative Modes” and“Character and Characterization” were discussed and some examples from the holy Qur’an were put forward.

After the presentation of papers, at the end of the conference, Ayatollah Mahmoud Mohammadi Araghi, a member of the Assembly of Experts gave a speech and finally the
conference was closed with a scientific discussion between Dr. Abdullah Nasri and Dr. Alireza Ghaeminia.
