(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has severely condemned hate crime committed against Muslim minority population of Burma in Rohingya province.
Mr. Zarif arrived in Kuala Lumpur early Wednesday night to attend an emergency meeting held by OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) to address the alarming situation of Muslim minority in Burma’s Rohingya province. “Muslims had been stripped of their nationality by Myanmar’s government in a brazen conduct which systematically neglected the rape and massacre of Muslims by Buddhist extremists; this leaves only one possible option for Muslim nations to speak out on behalf of the Muslims victim of discrimination and religious hatred,” he told the meeting.
“The world had been totally blind to the grim images of Muslim children dying on the sea while escaping death; the international community has been silent; we demand that the UN intervene to protect Muslims in Myanmar who had been denied their nationality; we urge pressures on Burmese government to respect the rights of the minority Muslim population,” Zarif emphasized.
“The nascent democracy in Burma should bring its fruits to both Muslims and other ethnic groups in the country; while the movement towards democracy is worthy of praise, the neglect of cruelty and brutality towards part of the population is unfortunate and source of grave concerns,” FM told the meeting.
