Sheikh Nimr’s book "A Petition of Honour and Dignity" unveiled in Qom.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Hujjat al-Islam Husseini Aref, a senior cleric present at the event stated, “In summer 2007, Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, the martyred Saudi cleric, offered a political plan to the ruling government in which he proposed a political framework aiming to improve the deteriorating relationship between Saudi rulers and their citizens.

He added, “Sheikh Nimr called his proposal “Petition for Dignity and Glory” and handed it to the Saudi rulers; later on, during one of his Friday Prayer sermons, the cleric elaborated on details of his petition and the process involved in drafting his strategies. He emphasized that, through his proposal, he was seeking to promote the concept of a fair and just government which respects the principles of freedom, human dignity, political legitimacy and a fair judiciary system.”

“His petition summed up Saudi citizens’ political and legitimate demands to establish a truly national government; one that practices social justice, freedom of expression and human dignity through a well-established judiciary system and treats all Saudi citizens in a fair and equal manner.”

Aref concluded, “In order to inform the world about the details of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr’s petition and to raise public awareness regarding his case, we have conducted a project and translated the text of his petition to 10 international languages; It’s published as a book and is now available for public access along with the software containing his petition.”
