Otteh: Zakzaky’s continued detention illegal

The Buhari government must obey the judgment of the Federal High Court declaring that the detention of Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky is unconstitutional and illegal and release him now, Joseph Otteh, Director, Access to Justice has said.

Nigeria (AhlulBayt News Agency) - The Buhari government must obey the judgment of the Federal High Court declaring that the detention of Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky is unconstitutional and illegal and release him now, Joseph Otteh, Director, Access to Justice has said.

Speaking during a telephone chat yesterday, Joseph Otteh said that the government had no legitimate reasons to detain El-Zakzaky in the first place, and ought to have released him immediately the court decision was announced.

“Any further delay in releasing El-Zakzaky will represent a direct and serious affront to the rule of law, a hardening of dictatorship behaviour in a democratic government and a dangerous abuse of power.”

He said that while over 259 members of IMN have been charged to court for the murder of one soldier during that incident by the Kaduna State government, no soldier has been charged to court for the killing of over 348 members of the group.
