(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Nigerian students under the auspices of Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the leadership of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, on Thursday staged another peaceful protest demanding for the unconditional release of their leader who was detained since 12 December last year.
The march kicked up from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and wrapped up at the National Assembly.
The protesters mostly varsity students were carrying banners, posters and placards inscribed #FreeZakzaky and chanting songs of solidarity throughout the protest.
At the tail of the protest, Nigerian Inspector-General of Police, Idris Kpotu arrived at the scene. He pleaded with the students over past harassment by some police during their last protest at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
The convener, Malam Abdullah Musa while interacting with press men shortly after the gathering said they were at the National Assembly to reiterate their demand, which he said was the unconditional release of Sheikh Zakzaky alongside his wife.
He said "the senate has constituted a committee to probe the incident and was expected to submit the report two weeks after but it's almost a year and nothing has happened. Also we submitted a catalogue of the massacre including picture evidence but the legislatives have turned a blind eye on it."
As the second arm of government we believe that the legislature would to something about it" he concluded.
Meanwhile, the legislatures pleaded with the student saying that they can't attend to anyone now because they were in an executive session.
