Shias, Sunnis attend joint congregational prayers in Tanzania

Shia and Sunni Muslims in Tanzania held a joint march and then said congregational prayers together on the passing away anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - According to the Iranian cultural attache in the East African country, the march was held on Tuesday in Stone Town in Zanzibar.

The participants then went to Hojatolislam Mosque and said prayers there.

Prior the prayers, eulogies were recited and then Hojat-ol-Islam Sheikh Jalal, who heads the Imam Sadiq (AS) Seminary in Tanzania, delivered a speech.

He elaborated on the virtues of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and called on all Muslims to get united under the banner of the love for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

Islam is the religion of about 35% of the people of Tanzania. On the mainland, Muslim communities are concentrated in coastal areas, with some large Muslim majorities also in inland urban areas especially and along the former caravan routes. More than 99% of the population of the Zanzibar archipelago is Muslim.
