(AhlulBayt News Agency) - A Pakistani subordinate court granted bail to Senior Shiite cleric Allama Mirza Yousuf Hussain against a surety bond of Rs50,000 on Wednesday, while police withdrew the weapons case against Faisal Raza Abidi.
Hussain, a Shia scholar of the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, and Abidi, a former Shiite senator of the Pakistan People’s Party, were detained earlier this month illegally in Karachi. Abidi was later grated bail against a surety bond of Rs50,000.
The scholar’s defence attorney had said that his client was innocent and that the case of delivering a provocative speech registered against him at the Sharifabad police station was bogus.
The bail plea had been referred to an anti-terrorism court. The attorney challenged the insertion of provisions dealing with the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, following which the case was transferred to a subordinate court, which finally granted Hussain bail.
In the case of Abidi, Rangers apparently had found a weapon at the former senator’s house, but he was released against a surety bound of Rs50,000.
Police later submitted a report before a judicial magistrate for revoking the unlicensed weapons case against Abidi.
The investigating officer submitted a report in the court of a judicial magistrate and asked the court to cancel the case because “the suspect had provided a permit for the weapons during the investigation”. The case that was registered at the Sachal police station was then withdrawn.
