(AhlulBayt News Agency) - "The Islamic Republic of Iran attached great weight to its relations with the European Union and this meeting was a significant step in developing relations with the EU and Slovenia as a friend country," said President Rouhani in a press conference in Tehran.
In the press conference that was held after signing of 3 cooperation documents between Iran and Slovenia on Tuesday, Dr Rouhani added: "There are ample potentials in both countries for cementing economic ties, investment and technological relations".
"Slovenian President's visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran for the first time in 25 years and opening of the country's embassy in Tehran indicates strong resolve for developing ties," added the President.
He went on saying: "So far, I have had three meetings with my Slovenian counterpart, each of them contributing to cementing Tehran-Ljubljana ties".
Referring to common interests in bilateral, regional and international issues, Dr Rouhani said: "Tehran and Ljubljana share viewpoints in major regional and global issues".
We also discussed the importance of the nuclear agreement and Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, said President adding: "Iran and the European Union are fully committed to bolstering this imperative multilateral agreement and tapping the post-JCPOA opportunities".
"We both agreed that Tehran and Ljubljana have ample potentials for cementing economic ties, investment and technological relations and should make the best use of these potentials," he continued.
Dr Rouhani added: "Iran and Slovenia also showed interest in developing cultural, scientific and technological relations. The documents signed today in the field of ICT and nanotechnology indicate that both countries are determined to deepen ties in modern technology".
Highlighting global issues including terrorism, extremism and immigration, he said: "In these negotiations, both sides discussed the role and significance of international consultation and cooperation to eradicate such problems".
"During these talks we also talked about the latest election in the United States and its possible global and regional effects," he added.
At the same meeting, the President of Slovenia Borut Pahor referred to his accompanying economic delegation and said: "A new chapter has begun in Iran-Slovenia ties."
I urge all parties to JCPOA to live up to all of their commitments in the negotiations because this agreement is a signal that can help us resolve all international disputes through diplomatic ways and negotiations, he went on saying.
"Slovenia is determined to develop its ties with Iran to the highest point and we will try to increase the level of commercial ties with Tehran," Pahor continued.
He also invited Dr Rouhani to make an official visit to Slovenia.
